CCC: Craftsperson Commission Connection
Linking community members and artists
The CCC is a referral resource we maintain at CAFAC that benefits community members who need skilled artists for repair, fabrication, or commissions, and that offers participating artists a chance to build their portfolio and secure paying commissions. Requesters fill out a Project Intake form with details about a project they need completed, and we connect them with artists who are a good match in terms of skills and expertise.
Artists are asked to respond directly to requests. We can’t guarantee we’ll find an artist who is available to take on your project, but will let you know if we aren’t able to make a connection for you. If you’re looking for an artist to create a new custom piece, we ask that you browse our catalog of CCC artists before completing the form.
Periodically, we will survey project requesters like you to learn if you hired an artist through the CCC, and some other basic details about your project. This helps us measure the economic impact of this referral resource.
Successful commissions
Project requests that offer artists more creative license are generally more appealing, since participating artists are looking to expand their portfolios. Your project is more likely to be matched more quickly if you’ve looked through our catalog of participating artists and chosen a few who you think could be good for your specific project. It’s also more likely to be successful if you are willing to collaborate with your artisan on budget, timeline, and scope. Remember—the artists who fulfill commissions are skilled professionals and know the value of their labor.
Submitting the project intake form is not a guarantee of matching your project with an artisan. Depending on the project’s creative license, timeline, budget, and techniques required, we may not be able to make a suitable match. Even if we are, it can take up to a week for us to find potential artist matches, and up to two weeks for them to contact you directly. Please don’t submit multiple project requests if you haven’t heard back.
Repair Work
Some CCC artists love to take on repair work, especially of unique and cherished items, or to fix things that still have life in them. We won't forward repair requests for items that need to be road-worthy, for liability reasons. Like with creative commissions, we can't guarantee we'll find someone to fix your piece and it may take 1-2 weeks to find a match, so the CCC isn't ideal for rush repairs.
